Yet that really isn't the point here... Narrow-minded beauty ideals and the disproportionately large effects of commercial "beauty" are.<BR/><BR/>It is not true that as women gain their rights, men are losing theirs. Women are still being paid less than men, still face "glass ceilings," are criminalized as "sluts," discriminated against in courts (especially Native American women), denied the right to abortions. Sexism's effects reach both men and women, as the objectification of men in fashion shows. Whenever a man is thought to "not act his gender," he is derogatorily accused of "acting like a girl," and generally treated in the sexist way women often are.<BR/><BR/>The same people who hire and promote unhealthy ideals of male beauty also promote anorexic female models (and you don't have to be a size zero to glamorize eating disorders or objectify your gender.) Companies who promote this ideal of beauty are the same people who promoted the "curvy" ideal in the 40s, only now the "hot commodity" is skinny. These companies could care less for the mental and physical healthy of their consumers, as long as the consumers keep buying their "product."<BR/><BR/>So let's not turn this into a "man vs. woman" battle... women and men need to be united against the disproportionate attention given to unhealthy, commercialized "beauty" ideals sold to us by the fashion industry. People who are against unhealthy depictions of beauty believe it applies to both women AND men.
